Our Awareness of Self Increases Success (O.A.S.I.S.)
The OASIS Therapeutic Community is part of the Pickaway Correctional Institution, serving male offenders with substance abuse problems. One of the first programs of its kind in Ohio, founded in 1993, OASIS’s vision is to promote right living and reduce recidivism, for more healthy communities. Because it is a more established TC, there are alumni and senior members who have continued to live on the unit after graduation from the program and can offer support to new members.
Like the other TCs, the goals and objectives of the OASIS program are to address anti-social behaviors, including, but are not limited to, addictions and criminal behavior. This is accomplished by creating a client community that is a microcosm of the larger outside community. In this way, the community has a very structured day that includes CBT Classes, process-oriented groups, peer-led groups and community meetings. Every member also has a job and role in the therapeutic community. The community members throughout the treatment give each other feedback about one another’s behaviors.
