“Sharing Healing thru Individual Experiences by Living Diligently”
“We as brothers are here to turn trials and tribulation into a legacy of success and to gain knowledge, structure, and respect for one another, through determination and motivation in a world of everyday struggles.”
SHIELD Therapeutic Community was established in 2015 at Noble Correctional Institution (NCI) as a grant between CompDrug and Ohio Department of Rehabilitation and Corrections. A therapeutic community (TC) is a positive environment where people, who have similar problems, including substance abuse, live and work together to better their lives.
The structure is set up like a large family, with the staff representing the rational authority figure. There is a chain of command that must be followed with all community members striving to earn better jobs, privileges and status within the community. Members move up the ladder by complying with the rules, participation in all group activities and performing their job functions in a responsible manner. Family members must possess a desire to change and a willingness to redirect their lives. An increased level of honesty, self-awareness, and the ability to identify feelings are by-products of their honest efforts to bring about positive change in their lives.
