“Turn life’s stumbling blocks into stepping stones”
Stepping Stones Therapeutic Community (TC) is for the man who does not have the inmate mentality of “I just want to lie down and do my time.” Stepping Stones is for the man who is ready to be honest with himself and others, for the men of integrity that are willing to be held accountable for their actions, for the inmate who not only wants to get out of prison but wants to stay out of prison!
What is Stepping Stones?
Stepping Stones Therapeutic Community was established in 2013 at Grafton Reintegration Center (GRC) as a grant between CompDrug and Ohio Department of Rehabilitation and Corrections. A therapeutic community is a positive environment where people, who have similar problems, including substance abuse, live and work together to better their lives.
The structure is set up like a large family, with the staff representing the rational authority figure. There is a chain of command that must be followed with all community members striving to earn better jobs, privileges and status within the community. Members move up the ladder by complying with the rules, participation in all group activities and performing their job functions in a responsible manner. Family members must possess a desire to change and a willingness to redirect their lives. An increased level of honesty, self-awareness, and the ability to identify feelings are by-products of their honest efforts to bring about positive change in their lives.
